Anime comes to life yet again, this time via the collaboration of Evangelion and UNDERCOVER’s Jun Takahashi. For Tokyo Fashion Week 2021the show titled “Creep Very” featured a series of outfits drawn directly from Hideaki Anno’s Evangelion, that fits perfectly with the release of the final film Evangelion: 3.0 + 1.0 Thrice Upon a Time.
For a little background, Neon Genesis Evangelion is a popular anime from the 90s about giant aliens attacking Earth. While the show aired over 20 years ago Evangelion remains to be one of the most influential anime of all time. Eva managed to deconstruct the mecha genre and really all anime by marrying together themes of religion, eternity, and human experience. The series was hugely existential and redefined anime storytelling for what it is in the present day. It was one of the first anime to get big on the internet as well.
The designs ranged from parkas inspired by the giant Evangelion units and the Plugsuits worn by pilots like Shinji Ikari, Asuka Shikinami Langley, and Rei Ayanami.
