Closet Cosplay: Cree Lincoln

As you can probably tell from this blog, I watch a lot of cartoons. I grew up in the military, so my family and friends moved around quite a lot. It was hard making and keeping friends but cartoons, cartoons were always there for you. You can do anything in a cartoon. You could go to space, fight ghosts, totally be a spy. Anything you can think of you can do, and cartoons are great because you don’t come face to face with uncanny valley syndrome that live-action movies often have. And if you had a black character, that made me extra want to watch your show. It took me a while to realize this but most of the black characters from the 90s–00s were voiced by one person, Cree Summers.

Really she’s the only one

Some know her as Freddie from Different World but I think a lot of millennials know her as being Susie Carmicheal, Kida , Josie, Numba 5, and…Cree Lincoln

Cree Lincoln | KND

Any black female character you can think of, she’s probably the voice of. She’s so iconic in fact she has a character named after her in Codename: Kids Next Door (KND).

If you haven’t seen it, it’s about a bunch of children who are a part of a secret group “KND” whose mission is to make sure that adults don’t ruin all of the fun kids have. There are five main heroes aptly named numbers 1-5 and of course Numba 5 was my favorite. She was funny, cool, smart, and of course she was black. And of course her cool older sister Cree.

Outfit Breakdown:

Cree Lincoln Cosplay
  • Pink Cross over blouse- United Arrows
  • Gold Hoop Earrings
  • Mom Jeans-Pretty Little Thing
  • Timbaland Boots
  • Small Gold Necklace

Cree is a very high strung character but she’s very laid back in the way that she dresses, which is why this outfit is fun to wear. This is probably the only character I’ll be able to cosplay who’s hair is similar to my extensions right now. I can only hope that Cree’s presence and the rise of artists of color, it’ll lead to more characters of color we can look up to. Ever watched KND or old school Cartoon Network? OMG, I just found that out about a bunch of other characters being voiced by a black male voice actor. I’m shocked all over again.

Thanks for sharing! This was very enjoyable 🙂
